Description

A unique and compelling opportunity to see the exquisite beauty of Southeast Alaska from the Taku River with a glacier landing too!

From the comfort of your helicopter, enjoy breathtaking views of our Nation’s largest National Forest. On the water, take in the panoramic views of the largest glacier of the Juneau Ice Field, cascading mountains and the pristine Taku River.

First you’ll take off on your amazing helicopter flight with spectacular views of ice capped mountains, hanging glaciers and deep crevasses en route to the tour base situated on the Taku River.

After you’ve arrived at the tour base you’ll take in the sights while dressing in your full body mustang suit before boarding the airboat for your experience of a lifetime. Get ready to enjoy an energetic Taku River airboat excursion that provides you the opportunity for an up close and personal look at some of the most gorgeous and inaccessible country in the world.

Receive insightful historical information that will enhance your adventure and your understanding of the region. The river boat captain has 20 years of local knowledge specifically pertaining to the Taku River and is ready to make you an expert too! Once you’re tour of the Taku River and Watershed is completed, you’ll be brought back to the airboat base to bask in the majestic view of the glacier before reboarding the helicopter and taking a flight over the water to your landing site on the Taku Glacier itself!

Your pilot will shut down the aircraft and escort you on a walkabout of the advancing level of the glacier, where key glacial features like crevasses, moulins, blue ice and ice falls are present. The combined experience of seeing the glacier from the air and water and finally, walking on it and feeling the glacier beneath your boots, will surely be a cherished memory of your time in Alaska. The final leg of your journey with us is another breathtaking flight back to the helicopter base where you’ll be able to warm up and share your experiences with our staff and other travelers before your return drive back to your pick up location.

The actual tour is approximately 2 hours from lift off at the heliport to return to the helicopter base. Additional time is estimated for transportation to and from the heliport.

Landings on glaciers inside the Tongass National Forest are under permits issued by the USDA Forest Service.
